Early Beginnings
Amanda Salb’s love for animals was apparent from an early age. After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Biology, she pursued a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at Louisiana State University, followed by a Master’s degree in Wildlife Health and Population Management from the University of Sydney.
A Career in Wildlife Conservation
Upon completing her education, Amanda began working in wildlife conservation, focusing primarily on African wildlife. She has held various positions throughout her career, including working as a wildlife veterinarian at the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust in Malawi.
Notable Achievements
Amanda’s dedication to wildlife conservation has led her to numerous achievements. One of her most notable accomplishments is the establishment of Malawi’s first Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Release program. The program aims to rescue injured and orphaned animals, rehabilitate them, and release them back into the wild when possible.

In addition to her hands-on work in the field, Amanda is also passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. She has served as a guest lecturer at numerous universities and has mentored many aspiring wildlife veterinarians and conservationists.

Amanda’s work has gained her recognition as a leader in wildlife conservation. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa. This award is given to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to conservation and have made a significant impact on the protection of Africa’s wildlife.
